When looking at getting training in computer sciences there are a number of specialties that you will want to be aware of.  These specialties include web development, computer networking, computer software and computer hardware.  If you excel in analytical thought, problem solving, science and math then a computer science career might be the right choice for you.  There are a number of choices that you can make if seeking out a career in a computer science then there are a number of different ways that you can achieve your goal.  These might include an Associate’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree, any one of a number of special certifications, or certificate programs.  Depending on the company a degree might be sufficient or a couple of certifications however some companies require specific certifications in order to become employed.  One thing that might benefit you is to check into the company that you want to work for and find out what is expected there to get your dream job.  This can help you in planning an education plan with your counselor at school.  There are three main degrees that you might want to consider.  These include a computer science degree, a computer networking and technology degree, and a computer programming degree.

If you are interested in a computer science degree one thing that might shock you is that there is little coursework on computers.  These degrees are designed to prepare a student to be able to understand the technology behind computers in order to be able to troubleshoot, fix and develop new technology.  This program has a strong focus on math skills including data analysis and mathematical computing.  If you graduate with this degree you will most likely be working in some form of research.  There are several different types of computer degrees including an Associate’s, a Bachelor’s or a Master’s, but typically a Bachelor’s or Master’s is preferred for employment.  If you are looking to make yourself more marketable you can check and see if your school offers this degree in conjunction with other degrees.  This can be combined with engineering or information sciences.  This can give you a number of additional opportunities in the job market.  With a computer science degree you will have no shortage of jobs to choose from as there is always a need to have employees to develop software and hardware.

Another degree path you could choose in computer sciences is the Computer Programming degree.  This degree is a good choice for those who want a stable career to choose from.  By being prepared with the most current knowledge about advancements and technological certifications a graduate with a computer programming degree will have no problem finding a stable and secure job.  The basic job of a computer program is to develop, test and maintain the programs of a computer’s functions.    In order to make computers do specific tasks programmers must create different languages and tools that can be used.  One of the main employer fields for someone with a computer programming degree is software development.  Software development companies create and package specialized software which could include games and educational packages.  If you have a strong base in the technical aspects of computers as well you will also increase your marketability.  With the new jobs that are arising with cyber security, multimedia companies, web based organizations and wireless applications you will be able to find a challenge that is just right for you.

The third and final area in which one might seek education is when working towards a computer technology and networking degree.  This degree aims to teach the recipient about the theories and practices that are current in computer technology and networking.  You will learn how to install and maintain various aspects and structure of these networks.  You will also learn about the operating systems of these networks.  Some of the perspective jobs would be a network systems analyst, a network administrator, and/or a computer support specialist.  As there is a higher demand for the internet and computer technology in businesses the job market in this area will continue to grow.
